- Make a list of everything you plan to bring to the new location.
- Dispose of anything you do not plan to bring to the new location.
- Dispose of household chemicals and flammables.
- Determine the replacement value of all personal effects, for insurance purposes.
- Complete a USPS change of address form.
- Notify everyone of the new address.
- Make plans to disconnect gas, electric and other utilities.
- Make plans to connect utilities at your new location.
- Arrange to have major appliances prepped for the move.
- Pack clothes, toiletries and other essentials you will need for the first couple of days.
- Gather all the keys to locking items and keep them in a safe spot.
- Strip the beds but do not disassemble them.
- Be home when the movers arrive to guide them.
- Walk around with the crew manager while he/she does the inventory.
- Ensure that everything is ready for the move.
- Keep your signed bill of lading and inventory in a place that is easily accessible.
- Ensure the driver has the correct delivery address and phone number.
- Verify the expected delivery time with the driver.
- Conduct a final walk through of every room before you leave.
